Low-risk 'worm' removed at hacked South Korea nuclear operator

SEOUL Tue Dec 30, 2014 4:18am EST

(Reuters) - South Korean authorities have found evidence that a low-risk computer "worm" had been removed from devices connected to some nuclear plant control systems, but no harmful virus was found in reactor controls threatened by a hacker.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co Ltd said it would beef up cyber security by hiring more IT security experts and forming an oversight committee, as it came in for fresh criticism from lawmakers following recent hacks against its headquarters.
The nuclear operator, part of state-run utility Korea Electric Power Corp, said earlier this month that non-critical data had been stolen from its systems, while a hacker threatened in Twitter messages to close three reactors.
The control systems of the two complexes housing those reactors had not been exposed to any malignant virus, Seoul's energy ministry and nuclear watchdog said in a joint statement on Tuesday, adding the systems were inaccessible from external networks.
Energy Minister Yoon Sang-jick told a parliamentary session that evidence of the presence and removal of a "worm" - which the ministry said was probably inadvertently introduced by workers using unauthorized USB devices - was unrelated to the recent hacking incidents, drawing scepticism from some lawmakers.
"I doubt control systems are perfectly safe as said," Lee Jung-hyun, a lawmaker in the ruling Saenuri party, told the committee hearing.
Worries about nuclear safety in South Korea, which relies on nuclear reactors for a third of its power and is the world's fifth-largest nuclear power user, have mounted since the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan and a domestic scandal in 2012 over the supply of reactor parts with fake security certificates.
"We will prepare fundamental improvement measures by enhancing nuclear power's safe operation and hiking information security systems to the highest level following this cyber attack case," Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power said in a statement.
Seoul prosecutors have not ruled out possible involvement of North Korea in the cyber attack on the nuclear operator, which Pyongyang has denied.
Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power President and CEO Cho Seok told the hearing that all control systems of the country's 23 nuclear reactors were safe against malignant codes. On Sunday, he said that cyber attacks on non-critical operations at the company's headquarters were continuing, although he did not elaborate for security reasons.
The nuclear plant operator said on Tuesday it was increasing the number of staff devoted to cyber security from 53 to around 70, and would set up a committee of internal and external experts to oversee security.
Chun Soon-ok of the opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy party said: "The government's nuclear power policies have lost people's trust and whatever broke out only makes people concerned more."

Comedian Cosby was a bully during his Youth, another woman has come forward to accuse him

Yet another woman has come forward to accuse Bill Cosby of drugging and possibly taking advantage of her.
On an episode of "Dr. Phil" airing on Friday, the talk show had seven of Cosby's accusers for guests, including a woman who was identified only as Lisa who said that she was drugged by the famous comedian more than two decades ago.
Lisa had built a friendship with Cosby after being called to audition for him when she was a model in the 1980s.
"I was very excited to go and see him," Lisa told Dr. Phil. "I was starstruck. I felt invincible. I couldn't believe that he wanted to see me."

© Provided by TheWrap New Cosby Accuser Says She Blacked Out for 2 Days After Comedian Drugged Her (Video) she said the famous comedian was "respectful and kind."

On another visit, he allowed Lisa, 21 years old at the time, to bring her mother and sister along.
"My mother trusted Bill completely," she said. "I trusted him like I trusted my own father."
That allegedly changed when she visited Cosby at his hotel suite for a career mentoring session. She said he gave her two drinks despite her refusals, which he insisted would help her acting.
"I noticed myself getting a little dizzy," she said. "Bill had sat down on the edge of the couch. He said, 'Come over here and have a seat.' And he had his legs open and when I sat down, I was sitting down in between his legs with my back to his crotch. And he started to stroke my hair back in a petting motion like this. The last thing I remember is just feeling the strokes on my head. After that, I don't remember anything else."
Lisa said she didn't remember anything until waking up back at home two days later.
The new accuser joins more than 20 other women who have said that Cosby drugged and/or sexually assaulted them. They include former supermodels Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson.
In recent days, Cosby's family had been rallying around him, including his wife and daughter.
As a result of the allegations, Cosby's comedy project with NBC was killed and Netflix pulled a stand-up special it had planned to premiere on Thanksgiving. Additionally, dozens of performances on his current standup tour have been canceled.
Cosby previously defended his refusal to comment, telling Florida Today in November, "I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn't have to answer to innuendos. People should fact check. People shouldn't have to go through that and shouldn't answer to innuendos."
In the wake of the mounting allegations, attorney Marty Singer previously released a statement saying: "The new, never-before-heard claims from women who have come forward in the past two weeks with unsubstantiated, fantastical stories about things they say occurred 30, 40, or even 50 years ago have escalated far past the point of absurdity."

Shame in China as village votes to expel HIV-positive boy

The plight of a Chinese boy with the HIV virus, reportedly pushed to leave his home by 200 villagers who signed a petition, sparked intense online soul-searching in the country on Thursday.
The case has highlighted the stigma attached to HIV in China, where many sufferers face widespread discrimination.
The boy's guardian, his grandfather, was among those in the southwestern Sichuan province who signed an agreement to expel the eight-year-old to "protect villagers' health", the Global Times reported.
The newspaper, with close ties to the ruling Communist Party, said the boy contracted the virus from his mother, and was diagnosed when he received injuries for minor treatment in 2011.
Previous reports said the boy -- who was given the pseudonym Kunkun by Chinese media -- was refused admission to local schools and villagers would avoid contact with him.
"Nobody plays (with me), I play alone," Kunkun said, according to a report Wednesday on the website of the People's Daily newspaper, the official mouthpiece of Communist Party.
The website also said Kunkun was referred to as a "time bomb" in the petition.
"The villagers sympathise with him, he is innocent, and only a small child," Wang Yishu, party chief of Shufangya village, told the website.
"But his HIV and AIDS is too scary for us."
The Global Times said the boy's mother left the family in 2006, while his father "lost contact" after Kunkun's condition was diagnosed.
The case sparked much debate on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo, where it was the most widely-discussed topic on Thursday morning, with many asking how people could be so cold-hearted towards the boy.
"Why was he ruthlessly neglected, it is so unfair to him," one poster said.
"This is because the Chinese population cannot get enough education, causing ignorance and panic," said another.
China's National Health and Family Planning Commission said earlier this month that by the end of October, a total of 497,000 people in China had been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS since the country's first case in 1985. China has a population of 1.36 billion.
Discrimination against those with HIV/AIDS remains an issue at schools, hospitals, workplaces and other establishments across the country, a factor that experts say hampers efforts to diagnose and treat the virus.

Nigeria Sentences 54 Soldiers To Death For Refusing To Fight Boko Haram

Nigerian soldiers fighting Boko Haram ( Muslim Fighters)
A Nigerian military court sentenced 54 soldiers to death Wednesday, after they were convicted of mutiny. The soldiers' convictions stem from allegations that they refused to help recapture three towns taken over by Boko Haram, an Islamist group that has been fighting an insurgency in the country's north since 2009.
A lawyer representing the soldiers said that the 54 were now expected to face execution by firing squad, while five were acquitted by the court, according to the BBC.
Nigerian troops on the front lines of the battle against Boko Haram have complained that they lack the weapons and supplies necessary to tackle the group, which possesses tanks, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and other heavy weaponry, according to an AFP report.
Nigerian defense officials had denied claims that the country's army was ill-equipped for the challenge of taking on the group but, in a move seen by some as a tacit admission of the national army's inadequacies, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan earlier this year sought permission for a $1 billion loan from foreign institutions to “upgrade the equipment, training and logistics of the armed forces,” according to Forbes.
Those charged, including the soldiers who were acquitted, are attached to the 7 Division, Nigerian Army and include two corporals, nine lance corporals and 49 Private soldiers, according to Nigerian news site Premium Times.
The court's ruling comes after 12 Nigerian soldiers from the same division were sentenced to death in September, following charges that they mutinied and attempted to murder their commanding officer. The alleged mutiny was also conducted by soldiers who were tasked with fighting Boko Haram.
Earlier this year, Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan announced that the government had struck a ceasefire deal with Boko Haram, whose name translates as "Western education is forbidden," to secure the release of 219 schoolgirls, whose kidnapping by the group had in April had prompted global outrage, and gave birth to the Twitter hashtag #bringbackourgirls.
In a video released Nov. 1 however, Boko Haram's leader, Abubakar Shekau, said that the kidnapped girls had been “married off” to fighters, and denied that any ceasefire had been agreed.

Military & Defense More: Military Defense Fighter Jets Nuclear Weapons The 35 Most Powerful Militaries In The World

Russian service men On a parade at the red square.

There's only one real way to compare military strength, and thankfully the world hasn't had many opportunities lately.
Despite the potential powder keg in the South China Sea, standoffs in Ukraine, and proxy wars throughout the Middle East, inter-state warfare between the world's military powers has been all but banished from the global scene (for the time being, at least).
For a simpler evaluation of military power, we turned to the Global Firepower Index, a ranking of 106 nations based on more than 50 factors including overall military budget, available manpower, and the amount of equipment each country has in its respective arsenal, as well as access to natural resources.
The index focuses on quantity, ignoring significant qualitative differences — North Korea's 78 submarines, for instance, aren't exactly state of the art. It also does not factor in nuclear stockpiles, which are still the ultimate trump card in geopolitics. And it doesn't penalize landlocked nations for lack of a standing navy.
We've created a chart to compare the top 35 militaries according to the Global Firepower Index. The ranking was released in April (before events like the Russian invasion of Eastern Ukraine in August, ISIS's blitz through Iraq, and the flare-up between Israel and Hamas) and involves a complex set of data that is subject to ongoing adjustments and corrections.

Here Are The Key Findings From The Index:

America's investment in being the world's leading military force.

The US clearly leads the world in military spending at more than $600 billion a year. China is in a distant second, at nearly $130 billion — less than one-third of America's overall spending.
According to a report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the US has reduced its defense budget by 7.8% chiefly because of America's gradual withdrawal in overseas military operations, such as in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Russia, meanwhile, has increased its arms spending by $88 billion and plans to "modernize" its arsenal.

Aircraft carriers are key, and very few countries have one.

Aircraft carriers contribute greatly to a country's overall military strength. These massive vessels allow nations to project their force far beyond their borders and across the entire face of the globe. They're essentially mobile naval and air force bases. Aircraft carriers can also carry drones, which significantly change the global surveillance game.
The US's absolute monopoly on super-carrier vessels significantly boosts the country's forward operating power. The US has deployed an aircraft carrier toward the Persian Gulf to bolster its sea and air power before possible strikes against ISIS in Iraq. Russia has previously deployed an aircraft carrier to the Mediterranean to display its seriousness in propping up Assad in Syria.

North Korea's useless submarines.

An anomaly in the Global Firepower index is North Korea's ranking as a world leader for submarines. And while it's true that Pyongyang commands the largest submarine fleet on earth, most of these vessels are unusable.
A third of North Korea's subs are noisy diesel-powered Romeos, which have been obsolete since 1961. These submarines have a weapons range of only four miles, whereas a modern US submarine has a range of 150 miles. This fleet is unsophisticated but still durable, according to the US Department of Defense.

Hypocrisy In Kenya !!

Hypocrisy In Kenya The recent events in media in Kenya is enough proof of the quantity of freedom that is in Kenya .It is a land where ,in religion ,one does whatever he or she feels is right in this universe and still be protected by the law of the land. Anyone can just wake up and interfere with another's life in the name of religion and still escape the claws of the law comfortably. Some of the religious men just wake up and speak whatever can earn them the days’ piece of bread and then the following day, deny it that they never pronounced anything from their mouths ,and the law, will still let them repeat it tomorrow or even go and discuss it on radio shows or on television shows. The Kenyan government and its people doesn’t even worry to go and scrutinize the quality of the services that this religious groupings are giving their people even when there is enough evidence that someone is humiliating the meek with false praises on the name of the Lord God. The Hypocrisy rates in Kenya are alarming!! The Pastor Kanyiri, or whatever they call him, is the true incarnation of Lucifer himself; he impersonates the righteous people in history and in our current world in order to lure people in to his traps! You needn’t ask what is happening, you have already heard it, he is Lucifer’s’ offspring!! What could be the right step to take legally against this hypocrisy?

It Is Wrong To Direct Procedures in Shrines at Gun Point

The decision by the attorney general to act against shrines in the country isn’t the right step to counter the hypocrisy and inhumane acts of the leaders of these shrines as it was witnessed in the Kenyan media in the past. Shrines didn’t sin; it was the human beings in the shrines that sinned!!
May the attorney general understand that it wasn’t the entire Christian population that went wrong, but I was an individual’s weaknesses! Were it the e views of the entire religion, then we would have responded as a group and given him the clarity on our stand about the matter.
For these reason, it is bad to talk against the entire religion, instead, we ought to judge the victim of hypocrisy individually and ask him where he met God and received the directions from him to carry out the worshipping the way he did. Without an answer, he shouldn’t be allowed to continue and the best way to do this is by advising the followers to stop going to the shrine again. You don’t expect Christian to command at gun point!!!
Mr. Attorney general, please understand that what we witnessed was just human weaknesses that are in every one of us!! You have witnessed them even in the high levels of our government .There isn’t anything serious about that!! We needn’t close or direct the shrines on what and what not to do, rather, if there is anything wrong, let the Lord God Clean it up.
So, because we have open and obvious evidence against the involved pastor, pastor Kanyiri, he shouldn’t be allowed to continue fooling the masses openly with his stuff. Let that be the end of him and let us not ever hear of him again, Christian and none Christian, please let us not hear of him again.
There should be a way of dealing with hypocrisy and the best way, according to my knowledge is to tap enough physically available evidence against him or her and the use it against him, just like the Jicho Pevu people did .Otherwise, directing the procedures in shrines wouldn’t be a wise idea!!Or we could just close down all these shrines because you don’t expect me to walk in to a court room with evidence about spiritual matters, do you?
There was nothing wrong, it was just a matter of human weaknesses and the expulsion of the victims from the service is enough, just let life go on as usual in this country Mr. Attorney General!!

Bill Cosby sued Tuesday by a Southern California woman

Rain, flooding and mudslides threaten California neighborhoods
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bill Cosby was sued Tuesday by a Southern California woman who claims the comedian molested her in a bedroom of the Playboy Mansion around 1974 when she was 15 years old.
Judy Huth's sexual battery lawsuit does not specify how much she is seeking from Cosby, who has in recent weeks faced renewed accusations that he drugged and sexually assaulted more than a dozen women for many years.
Huth's lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, however, is the first time a woman has gone public claiming Cosby abused her when she was underage. A second woman told Pittsburgh television station KDKA last month that Cosby drugged her to the point of unconsciousness in the 1980s when she was 15.
Huth's lawsuit states that she and a 16-year-old friend first met Cosby at a Los Angeles-area film shoot and the comedian gave the girls drinks a week later at a tennis club.
The lawsuit states that Cosby took them to the Playboy Mansion after several drinks, and told the teenagers to lie and say they were 19 years old if asked. Her lawsuit states Cosby forced her to perform a sex act on him with her hand.
An email message sent to Cosby's attorney Martin Singer was not immediately returned. Singer has denied previous accusations or said the women raising the claims in interviews had been discredited.
Singer's statement does not apply to a lawsuit brought in 2005 by Andrea Constand, who claimed Cosby drugged and molested her at his suburban Philadelphia mansion in 2004. Constand, who worked for the women's basketball team at Temple University, and Cosby settled the case before trial.
Cosby resigned from the university's board of trustees on Monday. He had been the school's public face, appearing in advertisements, fundraising campaigns and delivering commencement speeches.
The accusations have put a significant dent in Cosby's recent comeback efforts, forcing the cancellation of shows on his comedy tour and prompting Netflix and NBC to shelve projects featuring the comedian.
Cosby, 77, has never been criminally charged stemming from any of the sex-abuse allegations, many of which date back to the 1970s and 1980s.
Huth claims she suffered severe emotional distress and that she discovered its effect on her within the past three years, which allows her to file the lawsuit under California law.
"This traumatic incident, at such a tender age, has caused psychological damage and mental anguish for (Huth) that has caused significant problems throughout her life," the lawsuit states.

Let the Anti-graft Bodies Move Closer To the People in the Villages,Nairobi Kenya

I have been hearing of the truth and justice commission collecting data from the people. Sometimes it is the integrity house doing a thing of the sort and much more .The truth is that I have never set my eyes of these people at work. So, whether they exist or not, I cannot be that sure. But I have been reading about them in the papers.
What we are saying is that, the integrity house staff could be living inside that house thinking that they are working. WE want these people on the streets, in the villages and in the slums. What they are doing is a shame.
Whether they base doing this or not, we cannot know but let us disclose it to them today that we aren’t seeing them at all.
Here is word of advice, I think the staff at integrity house are scared of the kind of thing that happenings in Kenyan courts, where only the smart ones survive or they could be scared of something else. So, we want the director and his staff, whenever they sniff something awkward going in this country, to come and collect data from the people in the slums, villages and the lowly places in the life ladder in this country.
Come and talk to us ,it is the only way that you can know what is happening to us .Sticking in the offices and following only what goes on around the rich is not fare. We need you close to us ,we want to whisper to you in the ears so that you can know what is happening around us .Don’t stick in the city following the rich people .The rich have the money and can afford everything, it is we the poor people in the country who need a good Samaritan to get us out of the nets of this rich people who almost afford to buy life .
SO we need you people close to us, we need you in the villages!! We need the EACC and we need the staff at integrity center!!

The 20 Most Dangerous Movies Of All Time: The Exorcist !!

(William Friedkin, 1973)
Possession, puberty and pea-soup as teenager Regan MacNeil feels the devil inside her.
Danger, danger! Storm-outs and faintings were common at screenings of Friedkin's psych-horror, with one theatre manager complaining, “My janitors are going bananas wiping up the vomit!”
More extreme cases included a man in San Francisco who attacked the screen in an attempt to kill the demon and another who sued Warner Bros after he passed out and broke his jaw.
Much of the trouble was apparently caused by the subliminal insert shots of 'Captain Howdy' – Linda Blair double Eileen Dietz in demon make-up.

The 20 Most Dangerous Movies Of All Time: The Battle Of Algiers

(Gillo Pontecorvo, 1966)
Stark, verité-style account of the Algerian War of Independence.
Danger, danger! Banned in France for its sympathetic treatment of the Gallic-baiting Algerian National Liberation Front, Pontecorvo's look at radical insurgency and Imperial oppression became an inspiration for militant rebels the world over (the IRA and the Black Panthers have reportedly used the film as a training aid).
It was also shown for counter-insurgency purposes at the Pentagon in 2003 to provoke debate about Iraq.
